Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, Hawa Mahal is Jaipur’s most iconic monument. Designed by architect Lal Chand Ustad, this five-story structure is made of pink and red sandstone. The palace has 953 small windows, called “jharokhas,” which allow cool breezes to pass through the building, giving it the name “Palace of Winds.” The purpose of the building was to allow royal women to observe street festivals and daily life without being seen.
